Another day, another shakeup at the White House.
The latest casualty for the Trump administration is Sean Spicer. After a short but wild stint as press secretary, Spicer announced his resignation this morning after Donald Trump offered Anthony Scaramucci, a Wall Street financier and devoted Trump loyalist, the role of White House communications director.
It’s no secret Spicer is not a fan of Scaramucci, and he’s definitely not alone. Scaramucci is an extremely polarizing figure within the Trump administration. He’s beloved by the Trump kids and opposed by Reince Priebus and Steve Bannon.Political Odds: Michael Flynn is Out. Who's Next to Go for Trump?
Spicer’s resignation is probably just the first fracture; there’s bound to be a lot more butting heads over this. What’s next for Spicer? How long will Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the new press secretary, last? And who will be the next to resign in anger? Let’s take a look at the odds!TRUMP’S WHITE HOUSE ODDS Odds to be fired or resign in 2017:
Sean Spicer had an abnormally brief run as press secretary, and the outlook doesn’t look too bright for Sarah Huckabee Sanders either, who’s been tapped to take over. Spicer had to deal with Trump directly contradicting him and was frequently forced to justify or explain the bizarre things Trump said or tweeted. We’ll have to wait and see whether Huckabee Sanders is up to the task.
The hiring of Scaramucci is a sign that Reince Priebus and Steve Bannon are losing favor in the Trump administration. The two fought to keep Scaramucci from the role, but in the end, were unsuccessful.
The winners are the Trump children. Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner fought to bring Scaramucci onboard and his hiring is a sign they’ve got the President’s ear. Kushner is embroiled in a few scandals, but Trump seems to be behind him 100%. As for Ivanka, well, Trump is extremely fond of her.Odds Sean Spicer will:
What’s next for the freshly unemployed Spicer?
Hopefully he writes a tell-all memoir. He only spent six months in the Trump administration, but I’m willing to bet he has a ton of spicy stories to tell. He could also land a gig on cable news, covering the stories and spilling the beans on the all the behind the scenes.
It’s unlikely, but maybe he’ll pull a Sarah Palin and appear alongside Melissa McCarthy on Saturday Night Live , where he’s been lampooned time and time again. Who knows, maybe he could even host.Over-Under on number of days Scaramucci remains WH communications director: 300.5 days
Anthony Scaramucci is on great terms with the president — for now.
He has no political experience and has been involved in some shady deals that could come back to haunt him. While he has Trump’s blessings, there are quite a few people in the administration who would be happy to see him go. With so much discord within the White House, his already difficult job could get a lot harder.
