2014 BOXING fight – Nonito Donaire vs Nicholas Walters – fight Video WBA

Review: 2014-10-18, great fight between Nonito Donaire and Nicholas Walters: it gets three stars. Nonito Donaire entered this fight with a professional record of 33-2-0 (21 knockouts) and he is ranked as the No.1 featherweight in the world, he suffered his second loss in 2013 when he faced the undefeated Guillermo Rigondeaux (=Donaire vs Rigondeaux); after that bout he beat Vic Darchinyan (=Donaire vs Darchinyan 2) and Simpiwe Vetyeka winning his fifth world title in five different weight classes (=Donaire vs Vetyeka).

His opponent, the undefeated Nicholas Walters, has a perfect record of 24-0-0 (20 KOs=83%) and he entered as the No.6 in the same weight class, he has fought once in 2014 beating Vic Darchinyan (=Walters vs Darchinyan). Donaire vs Walters is valid for the WBA Super World featherweight title (Donaire’s first defense); undercard of Gennady Golovkin vs Marco Antonio Rubio. Watch the video and rate this fight!

Very nice fight and an excellent knock out. Boxing styles quite similar but Walters is a stronger puncher than Donaire so he prevails.

sucks that the shot was to the back of the head

it was right to the back of the left side of his ear

which =side of head.

Agreed – side of head

Styles aren’t the same. Donaire doesn’t use fundamentals.

Waters does. Donair attempted to over power a bigger stronger guy.

Swinging wildly and paid for it.

Least now we can get Lamenchko Vs Waters!

I really want to see that.

Walters saved by the bell.

Too bad Donaire only has one hand. If he has a right hand, those he hit Walters with would have made a difference.

Nicholas Walters predicting a knockout win over Donaire in 5th or 6h round - Boxing News

Nicholas Walters predicting a knockout win over Donaire in 5th or 6h round

By Chris Williams: WBA World featherweight champion Nicholas Walkers (24-0, 20 KOs) plans on making quick work of WBA Super World featherweight champion Nonito Donaire (33-2, 21 KOs) this month in their fight on October 18th at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Walters, 28, doesn’t want to let the soon to be 32-year-old Donaire to hang around too long. He wants to get Donaire out of there as quick as possible. Considering what happened the last time Donaire fought, Walters might want to score as quick a knockout as possible to avoid finding himself on the receiving end of a controversial decision.

In Donaire’s last fight against Simpiwe Vetyeka last May, Donaire suffered a cut in the 1st round. He fought with the cut for 4 rounds, but after scoring a flash knockdown of Vetyeka in the 4th, Donaire said after the round that he couldn’t see out of his previously cut eye.

The fight then went to the scorecards and Donaire got the win. Some boxing fans think Donaire waited just long enough for him to have a good round to take the lead in a very close fight and then bow out of the fight.

“Donaire is going to realize from round one that he is in the wrong division fighting the wrong guy. Come October 18th, Christmas is coming early for me: I’m knocking out Donaire in round five or six,” Walters said to

The Donaire-Walters fight will be the co-feature bout on the Gennady Golovkin vs. Marco Antonio Rubio fight card on HBO Championship Boxing.

This is going to be a difficult fight for Donaire because Walters has a string of knockouts, and he’s got the size and power to give Donaire fits. In Walter’s last fight, he stopped Vic Darchinyan in the 5th round last May.

If Donaire doesn’t knock Walters out or if Donaire doesn’t suffer another injury that causes the fight to be stopped then it’s quite possible we could see Walters win this fight.

Donaire and Walters to Fight For WBA Featherweight Title

Nonito Donaire and Nicholas Walters to Unify Titles on October 18th

Nonito Donaire Jr. and Nicholas Walters have agreed to a fight that will determine the true WBA Featherweight champion.

Although the contract for the bout has not been officially signed by both boxers, Donaire and Walters have agreed in principle to face each other in the undercard of the Gennady Golovkin-Marco Antonio Rubio middleweight title bout on October 18th at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Donaire (33-2 with 21 knockouts), the BWAA’s 2012 Fighter of the Year, is currently the WBA’s “Super” featherweight title after dethroning Simpiwe Vetkeyka last May 31 in Macau, China. Walters (24-0 with 20 knockouts) won the vacant WBA “regular” belt by beating Daulis Prescott via 7th round TKO in 2012. Walters has since defended that title twice, the last of which was against Vic Darchinyan in the same fight card as Donaire-Vetyeka in Macau.

According to Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions which handles Golovkin, their stable has a limited roster and they needed another big name to make the Golovkin-Rubio an HBO fight. Fortunately, Top Rank needed a slot for Donaire, and with the fight dates for the rest of the year almost filled up, Top Rank agreed to match two of its top featherweights to add value to the Golovkin-Rubio card.

“They are both Top Rank fighters, but we wanted to make the best fight possible even if it didn’t involve our fighters in the co-feature.”Loeffler said.

Carl Moretti, Vice President of Top Rank Promotions, said: “These guys want to fight and we want them to fight, so this was a good spot for them.”

Changing of the guard?

While the bout is only a paper unification between two champions from the same organization, it promises to be a terrific fight between the experienced Donaire and the young Walters. The 28 year old Walters, known as the “Axe Man”is one of the fastest rising stars in the featherweight division. He is known for his vaunted knockout power which has claimed 20 out of his 24 opponents.

On the other hand, Donaire is coming off a controversial win over Vetyeka last May when he was “gifted” a technical decision win after the referee decided that he could not continue to fight after a bad cut caused by an accidental headbutt. Because Donaire scored a knockdown over Vetyeka in round four, he won the title on points after the stoppage before round five.

The “Filipino Flash” has looked flat in his two fight comeback trail, showing lack of the surgical precision and killer instinct that made him Boxer of the Year in 2012. If he continues his lackluster performance, we may see a changing of the guard in the featherweight ranks on October 18th with Walters ready to assume super stardom from Donaire.
