bet unibrow 2018

If you don’t know Anthony Davis from his crushing performances while playing basketball for the University of Kentucky, you likely recognize his face.

Okay, let’s be honest, you likely recognize his unibrow.

At nearly any Kentucky game it was never hard to spot fans supporting and pulling for Davis while wearing unibrow T-shirts or even glasses with a unibrow attached — even his mom wore one.

Which is perhaps why Davis, who is a hot commodity and is expected to be picked first in the NBA draft on Thursday, is recognizing a moneymaking opportunity and seizing upon it.

Davis officially filed trademark requests with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for the two best-known catchphrases associated with him: “Fear the Brow” and “Raise the Brow.”

The trademark applications show he’s filed trademarks for both phrases for practically everything from T-shirts to banners. Although it’s normal for people to trademark slogans for everything under the sun, we had to chuckle when we saw that aftershaves, shaving preparation and skin cleansers were included on the list.

While Davis couldn’t make any money off of the merchandise sold with his name or nicknames while playing in the NCAA, it’s clear this likely top-choice player is making sure to get down to business ahead of the NBA draft and his likely stint on the U.S. Olympic team.

And it isn’t a bad idea to get the ball rolling. Davis, if he plays anything like he did at Kentucky, is going to be a big draw wherever he lands. There’s been plenty of speculation that he could get some top endorsement deals and be a Kevin Durant of sorts as he enters a stacked NBA field.

Many people over the course of his time at Kentucky have begged and pleaded with Davis to pluck away the unibrow. But in a way, it’s come to define him and rally his fans behind him. So we’re willing to bet that if he does get a big endorsement deal once he’s in the NBA, it probably won’t be with an eyebrow waxing company.

Model Refuses To Pluck Her Unibrow, Challenges Beauty Stereotypes

Eyebrows have been the centre of – and sometimes the victim of – all sorts of creative (not to mention bizarre) beauty trends throughout the years. From thin brows to bushy brows, feather brows to squiggly brows, magazines and beauty blogs are never short of ideas about what you should be doing with those furry things on your face.

One thing they NEVER instruct you to do however is to let your eyebrows meet, thereby forming the much lamented unibrow, but one woman is determined to prove that they’re nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, as you can see from the pictures below, Greek Cypriot student and model Sophia Hadjipanteli, who’s naturally a blonde, even dyes her unibrow black to emphasise it more. And with over 60k followers on Instagram, there’s no shortage of people subscribing to her #UnibrowMovement.

Sophia openly accepts that her look is not to everybody’s taste, and she understands that some people find it unattractive, but she isn’t concerned about what other people think of her. “I personally think my face looks better this way,” she said. “Others disagree, and that’s totally cool.”

“I have a unibrow because it is a preference,” she recently wrote on Instagram. “I’m who I am because I want to be this way. When you judge others for wearing makeup, dying their hair, altering parts of their body or inner self, JUST BECAUSE YOU DON’T, makes you just as toxic as a lot of societal norms and pressures we are constantly faced with. AT THE END OF THE DAY just do you cuz imma be doing me whether you like it or not.”

She recently posed as Frida Kahlo, the famous Mexican painter also known for her striking unibrow, after getting inundated with requests to dress up like the iconic artist. “I have always loved her and thought she was so beautiful. After doing that, I feel like I have labeled myself as someone who is embracing being myself and isn’t necessarily being natural, but instead just doing what I want.”

What do you think? Is it time to ditch the tweezers? Let us know in the comments below, and if you want to read about another young model who’s embracing her unique eyebrows then click here.

What do you think ?

So, she'll dye her hair, wear makeup, and do all the other things ladies do for beauty, yet, she won't pluck her eyebrows? This is just for attention. And it worked.

Yep, exactly. I mean, she shaves her arms, legs and armpits. Probably some other parts of her body too. :D However, I think she is still pretty, though she would look much better with trimmed eyebrows.

She definitely does not shave her arms. You can see the peach fuzz on the first shot where her arms are visible. There are no images of her legs or her armpits or anything indicating she has lip hair, so no way (at least in this photo set) to determine whether or not she does remove that hair. And what does it matter if she does or does not? She's lovely, she feels comfortable looking as she chooses to look, and her unique look is part of what brings her the requisite attention to be a model. There's nothing wrong with courting attention, particularly when one works in an industry that requires it. I, personally, do not choose to have my eyebrows look like that, but her choice in no way impacts my own. More power to her.

Hell, she also removes her moustache. :D

how do you know she shaves her pits & legs , bet she don't .

@Michael Boatman. you can easily see on her pictures how clean and shaver her pits and legs are.

I very seldom shave my legs and u cant tell it. they are very light just like the hairs on my arms but I do shave under my arms. that is disgusting to see a woman with pit hairs. I will shave my legs when I can feel the wind blowing them..lol

hmm, I have some really shocking news for you: You can do whatever you want to your body and there is no logic to it. It's your choice. If you wear make-up, it doesn't mean you HAVE to do other things. Grow up.

If you read the whole article, you'll find the part where she says the point is not about being natural, it's about this one detail that goes against all beauty standards. She's making it fit within other beauty standards. Also, it states that she doesn't dye her hair blond, it's that she dyes her eyebrows dark.

you know what modeling is about right? and what do agencies do to hire new models? they look for unique STRIKING looks, aka. someone who catches your eye for whatever reason.

Adriana, I agree with you 100%. When it's not about who the average person on the street finds attractive but actually who considers a professional model to be really unique and striking, the best bet is to go for something that hasn't been seen before (that many times, at least).

Yes , it may be for attention and she may love all the attention she gets because of it . I think she can do whatever she wants as long as she's not putting anyone else down .

I think she said, she feels she looks better this way. The argument that she wears make up changes nothing and is not hypocritical of her at all.

you say she does other things for beauty but not her eyebrows. i disagree. She dyed them black and isn't shaving them in the name of beauty. Because unibrows can be beautiful too. And you being judgy over her fashion choices is exactly why she's doing this

William, you're right! It's all for attention. after all she is being talked about on boredpanda isn't she!

Yikes William. Thank everything it's her face. and not yours. It's absolutely lovely she has embraced and highlighted this obscurity. This encourages others to do the same. If a woman has a gap in her teeth that she enjoys. but gets her teeth whitened is she "attention seeking?" In no way, shape, or form, is there anything wrong with seeking attention for embracing one's differences. She's gorgeous. she's different . and she's living apart from the vanilla misogynist standards of beauty a majority of society possesses.

Im confused, i didnt see any pics with her hair a different color. They eere all blond. What color did she dye it?

She dyed her eyebrows to look bolder, not the other way around.

Aessidhe Eclipse doesn't have a reply option so I am replying to her this way. You are saying someone else knows nothing about hair when you don't seem to know how to read. It states, very clearly, in the article , that she dyes her eyebrows, that she is naturally blond. Don't worry though, it seems quite a few people didn't bother to, actually, read all through the article.

Annasue, I do know how to read, I just don't bother to read clickbait articles and just scroll through the pics (and sometimes comments when I have an extra minute) quickly and then move on to something actually interesting like XIXth century literature.

except you can dye your eyebrows as well.

well, you seem to know nothing about hair so let me explain. If her eyebrows are this dark, her natural hair colour is also dark hence she dyed it into blonde, natural blondes have light and thinner eyebrows.

Maybe she just really like it, like it is? Would it be wrong?

Well, if everyone else has the biggest this, or the smallest that. then what makes her stand out. There's nothing about challenging stereotypes at all.

She probably Brazilian wax too!

Sorry, but i think it looks ridiculous with the dyed hair! Nobody needs to pluck their brows if they don't want to, but that just looks odd.

Yeah, sorry I wasn't paying attention to that, but regardless - the contrast looks really tacky and overly attention-seeking

Agreed. I was thinking myself "It's not my thing, but whatever", but the eyebrows just stand out too much with obviously dyed blond hair.

Oh i just read the article (sorry for commenting before reading). So she is actually a natural blonde, but dyes her eyebrow. That does make it even weirder.

Oh most certainly, it doesn't look like a natural shade for her. Honestly, I thought it was very obviously dyed because it looks like the kind of dye-jobs I'd see the girls in high-school with! Not something professional, like a MODEL should have!

Lara, I actually have doubts about her being a natural blonde, first I've never seen a blonde Greek and secondly even if her natural colour is lighter, this one is obviously lightened even more (bleached) xD

I'm with you on this one. She needs to do a little "mandscaping". really. (And yes I know she's a woman)

It looks like she shaved her brows to promote growth. like a misplaced mustache.

She is a blonde, the article says she dyes the eyebrows to emphasize them

i didn't know she had dyed hair, to each his own.

the hair is natural, the eyebrows are dyed, did you read the article?

Actually, her hair is not all natural. You can see she has highlights.

I guess you didn't read my second comment then.

Eyebrows, there should be 2 of 'em.

Ed Mo, love that movie.
